The Soap Dispenser

A Customized Automated Soap Dispenser for a Child with Cerebral Palsy

 Designer:  Mark Houseman

Client: Bethany Campbell, Forestdale Memorial School, Malden, MA

Abstract

The Soap Dispenser (SD) is an automated soap distributor which provides an independently operable method of hand hygiene to the disabled. Commercially available dispensers dispense soap downward, but not every disabled person wants soap dispensed downward. Additionally, most high end automated soap dispensers are mountable rather than mobile countertop devices. The SD is an alternative to commercially available dispensers that meets the needs of disabled people by dispensing soap sideways into a shallow dish, while retaining the ability to be easily relocated.
