Environmental Control System

Voice Activated Television Remote Control

Designer:  Christopher Robinson

Abstract

The Voice Activated Television Remote Control provides patients who are weak and immobile at the Northeast Rehabilitation Health Network the independence that they deserve. The approach that was used in this project involved the development of an independent speech recognition system that can communicate via RF to a remote control which will operate a television; patients would be able to say 5 basic television commands. The following commands Power, Channel Up, Channel Down, Volume Up, and Volume Down were converted to bits and transmitted over a frequency of 433.92MHz. The results were rewarding and now the nurses at the rehabilitation center can use the extra time that they will have assisting others in need. This is an excellent example of how electronic technology can be used to improve the quality of health care.
