Radio-controlled Power
Strip Interfaced by RS-232 Serial
By Peter Gamache
Abstract
This project is designed to
provide switching control over arbitrary 120VAC devices from
the Vanguard assistive computer, or any other computer with
a DB-9 serial port. The project hardware consists of
two devices which communicate through a serial radio
frequency (RF) link. The master controller, which is
battery-powered, accepts serial commands from the Vanguard
and transmits commands to the slave device. The slave,
which is connected to a six-outlet power strip, receives
commands over RF and switches the appropriate 120VAC outlets
on or off based upon the users’ request.
