A project
that provides a blind man living alone the ability to
perform a household chore unassisted
Designer: Daniel Volz
Abstract
The
Navigational aid for independent living is designed to
provide a blind person, with permanent spatial reference
points by using sound. The Client would like to take out
his own trash. Cars frequently park between his apartment
door and the dumpster preventing him from making a direct
route to the trash receptacle. This often causes him to
lose his perspective as to which direction he was traveling.
This project involves a system which will direct him to the
dumpster from his apartment, and guide him back to his door
without assistance. The system consists of one handheld
transmitter and two external receivers.
