The Motion Activated CD Player (MACDP) was
designed for students with physical disabilities that
prevent them from using their hands or fingers to activate
switches and press buttons for the
snoezelen room at Shore Educational
Collaborative. Some students at Shore Education
collaborative are unable to control their hand movements.
Using MACDP, these students activated the device with the
use of their feet; by kicking their feet towards the device.
The MACDP will satisfy the handicap children’s need for
listening to music without having a parent, guardian, or a
teacher assisting them. The core of MACDP is a GP2D15 motion
censor chip. The chip is connected by circuitry to the
play/pause button on the CD player. The chip emits a
continuous signal that when interrupted causes the CD
player’s play/pause button to trip.
