HandiTalk

A tool to provide speech impaired individuals with a mean to communicate.

Designers:  Xuanvinh Q. Vu, Rath Chim, Jeong Lee

Abstract

HandiTalk was designed to be a means for speech impaired individuals to communicate with their environment.  One of its main features is ease of use. HandiTalk is a two part project.  One part is a button used as an input device.  The other part of the project is the application.  It has a timer that highlights items (pictures, letters) for a set period of time.  The patient waits for the item that they want to be highlighted and then they select it via the input device.  The computer will then generate a descriptive speech for the corresponding item.
